EGLISE DE LASBORDES

Dedicated to Saint Christopher, the church of Lasbordes was built around 1150. It was first the chapel of the castle then it later became a parish church. At the end of the XNUMXth century, a Gothic style church was built with a single nave divided into four bays and a choir ending in an apse. The building leaned against the seigniorial keep (XNUMXth century) which became the church tower. In the second half of the XNUMXth century, the apse was replaced by a choir with a flat apse. The church was enlarged by the addition of chapels between the buttresses. Among the remarkable works are wall paintings from the XNUMXth century, a baroque altarpiece from the XNUMXth century and a reliquary statue of St Christopher.
The altarpiece of the main altar of the Saint Christophe de Lasbordes church was commissioned in 1679 from Jean-Jacques Mélair (1635-1698), a sculptor from Carcassonne. It measures 10 m long and 11 m high. The lower part is decorated with six large Solomonic columns with composite capitals.
