The Canal du Midi has been recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO since 1998.

An admirable monument for its technical, architectural and landscaping arrangements, the canal is above all a “utilitarian” work designed and created by Pierre-Paul Riquet with a view to promoting exchanges.
