A WALK TO THE NAUROUZE THRESHOLD

Your itinerary
Step 1
From the Naurouze threshold car park, take the D218 road heading southwest, towards the old Naurouze flour mill. You will pass in front of it, before reaching a footbridge located on the right hand side, which allows you to access the plane tree avenue.
Step 2
You turn right to take the majestic avenue of plane trees, which crosses right through the old octagonal pool designed by Riquet. Of this basin, only the peripheral channel remains today, which serves as a slow settling channel. This allows us to keep a clearly visible trace of the incredible basin dug by Pierre-Paul Riquet, between 1668 and 1673. The latter has a tendency to silt up, due to the alluvium present in the waters of the channel of the plain. , it was decided to fill this basin in 1750.
Step 3
At the end of the path, cross the footbridge and follow the GR markers (in white and red, it's the GR653), which take you straight to the ocean lock. At the ocean lock, you can cross the bridge to read the information panels. Then, retrace your steps to the channel of the old basin (marker no. 3). Turn right to follow the settling channel. You soon arrive near a canal and a structure.
Step 4
Turn right to get closer to the structure placed on this canal. This is the supply structure for the Canal du Midi. Before 1750, the Mediterranean lock was located here. As this no longer has any use at this level, it is replaced by the Canal supply structure, which is used to count the volumes of water discharged into the Canal du Midi, via the plain channel. . By continuing to follow this canal, you reach the watershed of the Canal du Midi. From there, retrace your steps to find the GR markers; continue to follow the old basin, up to the pumping station, or up to the mouth of the plain channel.
Step 5
Follow the plain channel to the old flour mill water intake, then retrace your steps to the small bridge which spans the plain channel. You cross the bridge and follow the D218 again. Just after crossing the drain from the old flour mill, take the path on the right (wooden barrier). You soon pass between the canal service buildings and the engineer's house.
Step 6
You arrive at a crossroads between the path of the obelisk, the path of legends and that of the Pine forest, you take the path of legends lined with plane trees, it is in front of you. It takes you to the obelisk, where you can walk around the surrounding wall. Then go back down the avenue of plane trees, then turn right to reach the car park.
