Description

Between the aridity of the causse and the freshness of the channel of the plain, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, under the protection of the castle of the princes of the Tour d'Auvergne, set off to discover the flora and fauna who populate this remarkable place in Lauragais; admire its astonishing landscapes and viewpoints over the “Tuscany Audoise”, the Black Mountain and the Pyrenees. The passage over the ridge will surprise you, as will the small heritage that you will find along the way.

Getting to the starting pointto report a problem

Step 1

From the starting sign, you go down Rue des Fontaines, until you find a road on your left taking you to the place called Mondinotte. You turn left to take this road. At the end of this road, turn right and you will soon reach the green corridor of the channel of the plain. Where you join the channel, you find the second sign of the interpretation trail and then follow the channel going to your right. You soon find an intersection near a bridge.

Step 2

At the bridge, you cross the channel of the plain, and turn left to follow the path furthest to the right. You find yourself at the edge of the field and soon arrive at the next sign, about the amphibians at the watering hole. From there, you will follow the woods which are on your left. At one point, a path turns 90° to your right, plunging into the woods. You take it, this section is wooded and very beautiful. You then arrive at a sign evoking woody flora, from which your route turns left at 90°. Soon you arrive at the sign on invertebrate fauna, continuing, you find a path. You turn right on this path which takes you to a wide straight path.

Step 3

You turn right to walk this wide path for around 300m, before turning right, at a 90° angle onto a path at the edge of the field. You then arrive straight at the panel relating to the flora of the Causse, where you turn left to find an orientation table. There you will follow a ridge path which offers you a sumptuous panorama. 2 panels follow one another and following the same direction, you soon arrive near an old mill, clearly recognizable by its frustoconical shaft (seen from the outside, the walls are not parallel, their base is wider and the part narrower summit). At the mill, turn left to follow the wooded area, you will then rejoin the wide path that you left previously.

Step 4

Turn right to follow this wide path for a few meters before turning right to go down towards Rue du Château. However, you then leave Rue du Château on the right and continue on the left. Once past the castle, turn right onto the castle path which you continue until you arrive at rue du nord. At the end of it, turn left. In front of the church you turn right to find Rue des Fontaines, where your starting point is.
