A territory of gastronomy

Lauragais, and more particularly Castelnaudary, is a destination where gourmets gather around the many restaurants in our region. With the international influence of cassoulet from Castelnaudary, impossible to come to the territory without tasting the famous traditional dish.

Take advantage of your stay to meet the different players who revolve around this dish: potters, going through the local duck, beans or more widely market gardeners and even more wineries !

From a more global aspect, the promotion of short circuits, from producers to the plate is an important axis that we wish to promote as much as possible. The year is thus punctuated by fat fair, truffle market, night markets and several weekly markets in the small surrounding towns. This locavore gastronomy punctuates the region's agenda with meetings and partnerships between producers and restaurateurs.

A green destination

The territory's tourism policy aims to to preserve the environment rural and its natural spaces. On the mobility side, the territory is labeled Positive Energy Territory for many years, accessible in train by the Toulouse – Narbonne line, served from Carcassonne by night train; there road bike V80 crosses the territory as well as two GR.

Labeling Accueil Vélo numerous establishments make Lauragais a destination of choice for cycle tourists who love nature and gentle sports, with numerous trails to explore, particularly along the Canal du Midi.

Our offer hiking is currently being upgraded, since Lauragais is also a destination to discover on foot, by visiting our picturesque villages with medieval charm for example!

Castelnaudary, land of rugby

Castelnaudary is also rugby! The mark of the Spanghero family hangs over the city, in memory of the finest hours of the French XV of the 70s and 80s. The rugby spirit is palpable at Twickenham, a pub and restaurant with the largest collection of jerseys in France and numerous objects and works around the oval, an unmissable place in the city. The city club, the ROC, currently plays in Fédérale 1 and continues to promote this rugby culture in Lauragais.
